The Triumph of Love

Does the sun appear to be setting in your Christian experience? Hosea’s prophecy reveals the healing in the wings of the Sun of Righteousness when He rises (Mal. 4:2). God’s gracious purposes of love for His Children will not fail in their fulfillment.
To the casual reader of Hosea, “The Triumph of Love” may seem to be a misnomer. The prophecy may appear to be more a collection of random reproofs and threatenings against the sins of an incorrigible nation than an expression of the love of God to His people. Indeed, Israel is likened to a disloyal and unfaithful wife to Jehovah, and the prophet himself is set before the people as a living epistle to show them their evils when he is commanded to take an adulterous woman for his wife: “And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredom, departing from the LORD” (1:2). But God does nothing in vain, saying of His Word, “it shall not return void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereunto I sent it” (Isa.55:11). The troubles of Hosea’s marriage illustrate the long period of Israel’s affliction until she will at last acknowledge her rightful King, Lord, and Saviour: “Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days” (3:5).
